Consider/Approve Amendment to Board Policy #4.206 – Homebound Instruction

Background Information:

Previously, state law only addressed homebound instruction for pregnant students. Public Chapter 625 mandated that LEAs expand these programs to cover all students who qualify for homebound instruction. As a result, the State Board expanded its rule to encompass all students that may be eligible for this program based on a physical or mental condition. The State Board also included a new requirement that students be absent for 10 days in order to qualify for this instruction. Accordingly, the Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA) has updated this policy and re-titled it (previously "Special Programs") 4.206 – Homebound Instruction. The Board’s current policy is included for your reference.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the above-noted amendment to Board Policy #4.206 for the first reading.
